Metal Looking Epoxy Metallic Floor Epoxy

Interior design doesn’t always have to be something you just can’t wait to be done with. If you’re decorating your new home or you’ve decided to redecorate a place where you live – stop for a second and consider this amazing black epoxy metallic floor.

It’s three-dimensional look and brushed structure make it fantastically unique in a generally uniformed “cookie-cutter” market today. Depending on your needs and preferences, we’re sure you can include it in at least one room in your house and make it reflect your personality even better than before.

A shiny surface and top coat with mirrored effect make for a fantastic home workspace. This brushed black floor will look fantastic in any home office or other small workspace with modern interior and furniture. It goes great with black, as well as with the wooden surfaces. The shiny reflection gives it a necessary dose of glamor that will increase the professional feeling you get in your workspace. One step in the room with this kind of floor will leave everyone breathless and wondering what other surprises you may have for them.

Besides the attractive looks, epoxy metallic floors are also known for their durability so they’re suitable for heavy use – like in garage workshops, for example. The process of installation is very quick and what’s maybe the most important to you, the cleaning is extremely easy. There are no hidden places for the dirt to get into and give you troubles while cleaning; you can be sure that your floor will always be perfectly clean with minimal effort for this floor epoxy.

The advantages go further: if you work with some kind of chemicals, an epoxy floor is the perfect choice because of its complete resistance to them. This makes a metallic floor a wonderful option for a wide variety of in-house working areas be they for carpentry or car repair.
On top of everything, installing this black epoxy metallic floor is one of the most cost-effective solutions for anybody. The price itself is pretty affordable, but considering all the advantages it has over some other kinds of flooring, the calculation is clear – this is one of the best investments you will ever make, whether you want it for your kitchen and bath areas, living rooms and sitting rooms or for your own personal garage and basement work spaces.
Note: Now while the Dura-Kote Metallic floors are not the easiest to apply, there really is no WRONG way to do the design portion of this since it’s entirely up to you and how you want your garage or basement floor to look! And remember that these instructions are just a quick and dirty list of “how-to” steps – for a more detailed set of instructions, check out the tech data sheet for each of the products used in the procedure. And remember, DIY home remodel projects are supposed to be fun! So don’t get too worked up about all the little things!

Step 1. Floor Preparation:

First you’ve got to make sure your surface is TOTALLY clean, solid and free of all dust and debris.

Step 2. Apply the Colored Epoxy Base Coat:

Apply the base coat for your metallic floor – we suggest either our Dura-Kote Water Based Colored Epoxy or Dura-Kote Pigmented Epoxy 100 in black or at least a very dark color.

Step 3. Preparation for Metallic Coating:

Once the prime coat has cured through, the floor needs to be screened with a 100 grit sanding screen and all subsequent dust and debris vacuumed off the surface.

Step 4. Mixing and Applying Metallic Reflective 3D Coating:

Now you’re ready to apply your desired Epoxy Metallic pearls using the Dura-Kote Epoxy 100 sealer.  The typical mixing ratio is (1) 16oz canister of metallic pearls per 3 gallons of catalyzed product.  This must be mechanically mixed with a drill and a paddle mixer. Now it’s time to pour out your sealer on the floor in a fairly long trail (ribbon) and spread it around the way you like!  This part is really up to you and how you want the design of your floor to look.  Just make sure you’re wearing spiked shoes while you do it!

Step 5. Apply Clear Top Coat Protection:

Once that last very beautiful coating of epoxy metallic has cured out, we highly recommend applying a top coat or “sacrificial” coat of sealer to make sure your new floor lasts a VERY long time and is just as durable as it is pretty.  Once again, the floor needs to be screened with a 100 grit sanding screen and all subsequent dust and debris vacuumed off the surface. This can be done with a wide variety of products but the Dura-Kote Polyaspartic line would be at the top of the list – specifically the Dura-Kote PFC-120.

Outdoor Kitchens is a new Look for 2016 with Concrete Counters for Outdoor Space

oudoor kitchen and concrete countertops

Outdoor ideas Kitchens and Counter Choices

In Colonial times, outdoor kitchens were often placed far from the main house. This lessened the danger of fire, while keeping the residence cooler in summer and free from cooking smells year-round. When George Washington renovated Mount Vernon in 1775, he built a colonnade to shelter kitchen workers from the weather as they brought meals to the main house.
Today’s outdoor kitchens are designed for hospitality and relaxation, letting family and guests enjoy a uniquely expanded sense of house and home and grilling outdoor. A well-designed outdoor kitchen creates a three-season entertainment venue. Spring luncheons and end-of-the-school-year celebrations give way to summer pool parties and family barbecues which can continue into fall. Adding weather-protection for appliances, space-heating and fans to enhance ventilation and built-in fireplaces or specialty ovens all extend the use of your outdoor kitchen to, and in some climates through, winter months.

The ultimate role of an outdoor kitchen depends on materials chosen for its construction. Both paving and wall construction can echo or emphasize qualities of overall exterior surfaces. Using a single stone or brick texture for all patios and walkways helps to tie the kitchen to the house. Even more effective is the choice of concrete paving, which can be custom-colored and pattern-stamped. Laid out to adapt to the contours of surrounding landscape, uninterrupted, free-form concrete paving makes the most of available space and serves as a unifying visual carpet for both structures.
Look at concrete choices when designing the walls of your home outdoor kitchen.
To well-known durability, concrete adds a flexibility that maximizes your space. Curved walls and countertop bases let you choose the best flow of traffic for your kitchen area. Easily molded concrete lets you navigate around rock outcroppings, major trees and other substantial landscape features, creating an organic “fit” for your new entertaining hub. Make a perfect room outdoor living space today.

How concrete options can enhance the creation and function of your outdoor kitchen is especially clear when you look at the choices available for designing and maintaining countertops.

As flat surfaces with maximum weather-exposure, modern concrete countertops illustrate the material’s unique balance of durability and beauty. Technological advances like the incorporation of glass fibers into concrete let designers mimic a spectacular range of looks and textures. A glass-fiber-infused concrete, like the Surcrete Xtreme series, can be poured in depths from ½ inch to 2 inches or more, textured, colored, glazed, stamped and veined to resemble marble, metals, native and exotic stones and even wood-like surfaces. Fibers address old concerns about weather-sensitive cracking. New coloring and surfacing materials tolerate heat as well as cold. From fantasy lighting to attention-grabbing textures, concrete offers as many alternatives as you and your designer can imagine you kitchens outdoors. Concrete outdoor concrete counter top kitchens grilling is a great family gathering also outdoor rooms are a perfect gathering for friends.

For a young family’s yard, for example, picture this. The color scheme is simple, with dark awnings shading the stamped concrete patio, whose design resonates with tiling around the pool and you gardening area. A large grilling surface and undercounter refrigeration make casual family cookouts and frequent neighborhood pool parties easy to produce a new room. What set this entertainment center apart from the hospitality offered in neighboring yards are the high durability and easy maintenance of its building materials, especially those chosen for its abundant and handsome counters. Choosing concrete meant no limits on counter size and shape. Cracking and chipping become minimal concerns. Unlike granite or other stone options, counters

What Surecrete is in the market:

Every now and then you get it just right. We went to welcome the new neighbors, who want to turn a pleasant, bland house marooned on a sea of water-guzzling grass into an exciting and hospitable home for a growing family. First words out of the new owner’s mouth were “Do you know anything about landscape design?” First words out of my mouth: “No, I don’t, but I know who does. Surecrete!”
From superior concrete construction materials to networks of knowledgeable distributors and contractors, Surecrete lets you hand your job over to experienced professionals with the confidence that they will make your ideas a reality. Or they help you keep the job in your hands, providing an abundance of high-quality professional advice to make you an expert do-it-yourselfer. Topflight information at every step means that Surecrete does the whole job and keeps you up-to-date on exactly how.
The hottest new word for what the guy next door wants is “hardscaping.” That’s what you call it when you give your yard new contours and textures that can’t be created from dirt, plants and grass. Hardscaping means adding permanent decorative, architectural elements to your existing landscape. Hardscaping helps define discrete spaces in your yard, guiding children naturally to areas for active play, bike-riding and snacking. Paths and patios welcome guests to relax and reflect. Swimmers find places for towels, toys and refreshments without leaving puddly trails. For much of the year, your living space expands for outdoor meals and entertainment, and you enjoy a much-expanded definition of the “comforts of home.” That’s what hardscaping could be.
Right now, the new owner has the world’s biggest could-be list: an old-fashioned sun- and shade-friendly family porch across the front, a big planting circle around the old tree near the driveway. A broader driveway—one of these days there will be three or maybe even four drivers in this family. Patio, summer kitchen, fire pit, terraced stairs and a whole new run at the pool area. He sees what’s coming: family parties, neighborhood cookouts, junior-high celebrations, sweet-sixteens, graduations—maybe even a garden wedding!
To change could-be to can-do, pour that man an iced tea and sit him down with the Surecrete site. It’s time to start looking at the picture albums. As a major manufacturer and designer leader, Surecrete has plenty of photos of professionally-created designs that can be implemented by contractor-network members. For the ambitious homeowner, design ideas include workshops that let you work hands-on with industry-leading materials to fashion Surecrete designs. You’ll see the work of professional designers and share the latest thinking on both interior and exterior color and texture trends.
What’s really best, though, are the can-do pictures sent in for posting by do-it-yourselfers, artists, and seasoned contractors. Real work in real locations—this is creativity you can take home and use at your house! Oh, there are competitions every year, and you can see who won—but for purposes of your projects, the biggest winner is you. Looking at any sample Surecrete photo, you’ll be astounded at how much you can learn: the basic who-what-and-when, of course. But you’ll also learn what owners and contractors were trying to accomplish, the problems they faced and the materials and techniques they used to solve them. For a closer look, add Surecrete’s videos. Combine Surecrete’s picture resources with its distributor and contractor networks, and you’re not just talking about could-be to the next-door-neighbor.

About that rainbow: While you are talking to the neighbors, only you can decide whether to share that your new pool deck is finished in Egg-Me-On, Rusty Ruins and Peachy Keen. But– thanks to the huge rainbow of color choices available at Surecrete—if you want to, that’s exactly what you can say! The days when concrete came in gray and gray are far gone. Surecrete offers 250 color choices in concrete stains, 75 standard and 175 special-order. And this is only the solid colors! Add color-compounds which can be added directly to the concrete, acid-washes and specialized sealers, and you’re looking at closer to 300 color choices for your project. It’s like having a whole paint-store at your disposal, and it makes rendering textures like wood planks, veined marble or brick paving more manageable and realistic than ever before.
And it’s not just plain color. The effects you can create are pretty amazing. Marble-veining kits let you create the look of stone, then add streaks and striations of colors that harmonize with surrounding décor. Bring epoxies and flaking into the mix, and you can produce the illusion of walking through low ocean tide, across desert sand dunes or even through the clouds. Control the sheen as well, both for underfoot safety and appearance. Store your beloved motorbikes on a floor as hard-edged and as glossy as their lines. Surround an outdoor fireplace with benches that look as though they’ve grown from a woodland grotto. Use sweeping lengths of desert colors to make the progression from interior to exterior tranquility barely perceptible. Color formulae respect the latest in environmental regulations, so you can plan to use color everywhere! The newest lines are even USDA food-safe! For beautiful, lasting projects that make your home a beautiful special place, follow the rainbow—the Surecrete rainbow! You’ll be very glad you did. That’s what Surecrete has to offer you!

Pool Deck Resurface Project with Concrete Overlay

Concrete Pool Deck Resurfaced with Overlay Stain and Sealer

This pool deck just outside of Austin Texas is a perfect example of how an old, non-attractive pool deck can be transformed into a beautifully clean look using a concrete overlay system. The installer, Concrete Coatings by Design, was able to take this eyesore and turn it into a backyard beauty. Starting with the preparation of the old pool deck, the surface was ground down to remove any imperfections, sealers or stains. They the contractors addressed the cracks and holes to ensure a smooth finish that would not show through the applied concrete overlay. Starting with a white based sprayable concrete overlay, Surecrete’s Surespray, installers created a base coat which would eventually become the patio surface grout lines. After proper dry time of the concrete overlay, a pre-measured square tape pattern was applied using a heavy-duty overlay tape. The squares were then cut in certain sections to create a staggered tile look. Once the installers created the tile design they wanted, a second coat of Surespray was applied over the tape and knocked down with a trowel to create a natural look. Once this process was completed, the concrete overlay was allowed to completely dry. Color was applied using a liquid, water-based, semi transparent, coffee brown stain. The stain is then applied with a pump up sprayer until the desired color was achieved. Notice in some areas stain was put on heavier to give the pool deck a natural tile, stone look. Once the concrete stain was completely dry, two coats of 20% solid clear acrylic sealer was applied to protect the surface for years to come. The sealant also makes cleaning up a breeze! This homeowner must have been amazed with this contractor’s work and the life they brought back into their backyard. Surecrete products used were supplied by DecoPrep Surface Solutions out of Austin Texas. Contact your Surecrete Dealer today for your patio deck needs.

Concrete Counters Become a New Option for 2016

For many years, the list of good materials for building counters in residential, business and public settings has included a durable, reliable, not-very-exciting staple of the construction industry: concrete. Customers may still see it as the tail-end choice: gray, dusty, streaky when wet, hard to damage but also hard to incorporate into a building characterized by forward-looking design.

Technological changes within the industry have erased the old image of concrete. In comparison with other staples of counter design, like granite, marble and laminates, concrete is displaying increased popularity as a versatile, long-lived, attention-getting element of residential and commercial interior and exterior design.  Its seamless, easy-to-maintain surfaces make it a sought-out resource for professional designers and increasing numbers of do-it-yourselfers.

A popular song credits nostalgia with making everything old new again. The same may be said of intelligent innovation. Changes in composition, color and accessibility let concrete keep its traditional virtues while building on new strengths.

Concrete Counter Top Composition Changes Over the Years

The weight of concrete, roughly comparable to that of granite, is a major asset in many aspects of construction. Weight is closely associated with both stability and durability, making it ideal for foundations, bearing walls and other major structural elements. The same weight, however, has imposed limitations in areas like interior floors and sills, counters and paving. To remain stable and durable, for example, standard concrete counters are cast at 1 ½ inches thick, putting considerable stress on wooden cabinets or similar supports.

Reinforcing concrete with glass and other fibers makes concrete lighter and more versatile. Fiber-enhanced concrete can be cast into thinner and more fluid shapes, while eliminating the use of rebar or mesh fabric for stability. For example, Surecrete’s XS product line, makes it possible to create thinner, narrower and lighter concrete pieces, without sacrificing the strength of traditional concrete. Whether you want colorful lab countertops or a standout basement bar, Surecrete’s XS products make concrete a logical, durable, easy-to-handle choice for your project.

Concrete Color Innovations

For both residential and commercial designers, color is a powerful tool for setting a mood, creating energy, defining space and supporting a brand. Traditional concrete color elements, like acid-washing, relied on the chemical changes produced by heavy-metal ingredients. Environmental awareness of all kinds, and LEED building standards specifically, discourage human/chemical interface wherever possible. New color technology relies on saturation rather than chemical change. Dozens of color choices may move a designer to choose concrete for counters over less versatile granite or marble. Mix-in colors can range from sandy desert tones to lush forest shades and electrifying tropicals.  Stains and sealers add even more options, letting a designer create marbling, burnished metal or other textural effects.  Coloring choices include low-VOC and VOC-free formulas, along with numerous food-grade-rated options. For an outdoor kitchen, a poolside refreshment bar or counters in any area of family and children’s meal service, concrete counters offer safety as well as easily-maintained durability. Wiped clean and sanitized like other food-service equipment, concrete counters offer safe, beautiful surfaces for hospitality of all kinds.  Easy cleaning makes concrete perfect for bathroom counters, too.

Accessibility of Concrete Counter Top Products

Some manufacturers have responded to consumer environmental concerns with abundant information on how design-quality concrete is made and managed. Surecrete Design’s website, for instance, offers access to do-it-yourselfers in the forms of tutorials, materials-comparison charts, supply kits and workshops. Technical support for consumer decision-making helps customers make informed choices about their living and working environments. Generous how-to support makes it possible for ambitious amateurs to achieve high-quality results. Customers learn both about the values of traditional concrete and the innovations that help it maintain a well-deserved popularity.

Below are the steps for Surecrete’s Concrete Countertop DIY Steps:

Step 1: Counter top Layout and Planning

When building counter tops, as with any construction project, planning is the most important step!  Since every counter top design is different, your template needs to be extremely precise. So take your time with this step. Measure twice, pour once! Sometimes it is better to have someone else look at this and double check your measurements.

Step 2: Laying Out the Counter Top Template

Using the XS Forming System, start building your counter top template mold for your counter top.  Using the double sided tape, attach your foam rails to your selected smooth casting surface.  Remember that you will be casting “upside-down” so make sure your measurements translate correctly (casting mold reversed)!  Once all of the foam casting rails are attached, apply your clear facing tape to the inside edges of the foam rails, as well as any edge details on facing sides. Be sure all  facing tapes are flush with the casting surface and have no buckles. This will give your counter top edge a smooth and clean finish.

Step 3: Mixing your Counter Top Mix and Concrete Poured

Once you have your counter top mold set up and on a completely level casting surface, its time to mix the concrete counter top mix. The first thing you want to do is pour the pre measured 1 gallon liquid solution we call “modifier” into a clean 5 gallon mixing bucket. Now it is time to add your preferred color mix (see pictures below) with a mixer until well blended. This will insure that your color will be consistent in your final counter top.  Now slowly add in the 50 pound pre blended concrete mix with a mechanical mixer until you get the consistency of the mix you’re looking for. In most cases you will want it to look like thick pancake batter, thick but able to pour. If too thick, you could add additional water if necessary while mixing. (up to 16 ounces)

Step 4: Pouring Concrete Counter mix and Adding Desired Texture

Once your mix is the right consistency, it is time to start pouring into your mold, making sure to get it into every corner so as to not allow air-holes to form.  When pour countertop mix, if using XS Veining material, pour XS Precast to the edge of your first “vein” and then apply veining material along the desired edge, then clean any excess veining material with light air or you can and quartz. Then finish pouring your mix material into your mold until it is to the top of the foam rails. NOTE: Pay special attention not to go over the foam rails, this will make de-molding more difficult and you may need to grind or sand your counters bottom edge. Once your mold is completely full, gently “pat” the mix lightly to make sure no air pockets form underneath and get trapped. There is no need to use a vibrating table with this mix.

Step 5: De-Molding and Cleaning You Cement Countertop

In most cases your pour counter top can be de-molded after only 4 to 6 hours, depending on the size of your top this step may require two or more people. Gently remove the foam rails and facing tapes from the edges of your cast concrete countertop piece. Place the removed XS Foam Rails onto a flat surface in such a way that they will support your newly cast piece. Gently tilt your piece in a manner that does not cause flex in the concrete (similar to granite or glass). Place your cast piece on top of these to ensure breath-ability of the counter while finishing.  Clean the top of your top using diluted SCR.  Rinse thoroughly and wipe clean.

 Step 6: Sealing Your Counter

When looking for a more natural look and design, this concrete countertop kit includes XS-327 water-based food safe sealer. See the TDS for XS-327 for specific mixing and application instructions, Here are the basic instructions when applying this sealer: First coat should be applied at a 7:1 water to sealer ratio, you should completely saturate the piece until no more product can be absorbed, then remove all excess material by back rolling with very light pressure to get a consistent even coating. The following two coats should be applied at a mixing ratio of 2:1 water to sealer. As with the first coat, work XS-327 vigorously into the surface helping the counter absorb as much of the sealer as possible. Once applied thoroughly, back roll the sealer gently with little to no pressure on your roller to ensure no sealer marks show up later. Please keep in mind you can always get a polished look if these coats are applied evenly, just like concrete floors.

Step 7: Install Your new Concrete Countertop

Congratulations! You are almost done. Installation will vary greatly depending on the size of the concrete counter top you have cast and the way your kitchen is designed, but installation is typically very simple. Again, depending on the size of your countertop, two or more people may be required for installation to ensure that your counter top does not break when installing. Any seams can be joined together with colored epoxy or an equivalent product of your choosing. Concrete Counter tops that are sealed properly are extremely low maintenance and very durable, so now just sit back and enjoy your creation!
